Site Mapper Introduction

Topographics' Site Mapper lets you see your site locations and regions on an interactive map. You can view and edit information about your sites.

In this example, sample sites are distributed across New York State and the regions are comprised of counties. Your sites can be anywhere and your regions based on any areas.

Scroll down this panel for an overview on using Site Mapper.

To hide this panel, click on the at the top right.
To view it again, click on
Introduction below the map.

Sites on the Map

Sites are displayed on the map as dots.

  • When the map is zoomed in, the names of the sites display below the dots.
  • Clicking on a site dot opens both a pop-up above the site and a information panel to the right of the map.
    • The pop-up includes the name and address of the site.
    • The panel also includes other information such as the site's region, size, and contact information.
  • Both the pop-up and information panel are closed by clicking the ✖ at their upper right corners.
  • Closing the popup will also close the panel.

Sites in a List

Sites can also be accessed from a list.

  • Currently, the sites are grouped by regions listed to the left of the map.
    • To see a list of the sites in a region, click on the region name.
    • To see a list of all the sites, click on "All Sites" at the top of the region list.
  • In the resulting list of sites, clicking on a site name is the same as clicking on the site dot on the map as described above.
  • To filter the list of sites, begin typing any part of the site's name or address in the text box at the top of the list.
  • To return to the list of regions, click on CHANGE above the filter box.

Site Grouping

Sites can be be grouped (i.e. categorized) by different attributes.

  • Sites in different groups:
    • Show in different color dots on the map.
    • Can be viewed in separate lists.
  • Sites are initially grouped by region.
  • To change the grouping, select from the dropdown list at the top of the listing after "grouped by:"
  • The choices in this sample are: Region, County, Rep, Size.

Site Editing

Sites can be edited. The information for each site can be changed, a site's location moved, new sites added, and old sites removed.

To begin editing:

  • Check the "Edit Mode" box below the map.
  • The editing panel will appear to the right of the map.
  • The editing panel displays:
    • A list of labeled boxes in which to enter a site's information.
    • Buttons labeled "LOCATE", "NEW", "SAVE", "DELETE".

To change a site's information:

  • Select a site by either clicking its dot on the map or by clicking on its listing in the left panel. The site's information will display in the editing panel.
  • Change the information in the the labeled boxes.
  • Click the "SAVE" button.
  • Note:
    • White boxes without a downward arrow will accept any text.
    • White boxes with a downward arrow provide a list of choices in a dropdown menu.
    • Grey boxes are not directly editable.
    • The grey boxes for latitude and longitude are editable as described next.

To change a site's location:

  • Move mouse cursor is over a selected site so that it changes to a pointing finger, then drag the blue dot to the desired location.
  • Alternately, with the address fields in the edit panel filled out, click the "LOCATE" button at the bottom of the edit panel. The blue dot will move to the located address.
  • When the blue dot is in the desired location, click the "SAVE" button.

To add a site:

  • Click the "NEW" button at the bottom of the edit panel.
    • The edit panel be cleared of data.
    • A blue dot will be placed in the center of the map.
  • Fill in the edit panel fields.
  • Move the blue dot to the desired location by either dragging the dot or by entering the address in the address fields and clicking the "LOCATE" button at the bottom of the edit panel.
  • Click the "SAVE" button.

To remove a site:

  • Select a site.
  • Click the "DELETE" button at the bottom of the edit panel.

Regions

Regions on this sample application are comprised of counties. The color of each county indicates which region it is a part of. Counties can be changed from one region to another.

  • To list and interact with the counties, select "counties" from the left dropdown menu at the top of the listing.
  • Interaction with the counties is much the same as with sites, except:
    • The counties are grouped only by region.
    • Only a county's region can be edited.
